Library and information studies department imparts knowledge and skill to trainees in various careers. I.e. Librarians, Archivist, Documentalist, Curators, Record managers’, Journalist, Radio Presenters e.t.c

The information department commenced in 1992 with a few students and has progressed to great number with an approximately of four hundred and fifty (450) student currently. The student are awarded Certificate, Diploma and HND which empowers them to compete in the job market.
The department has twelve (12) qualified teachers engrossed in imparting knowledge. The students’ performance has been exemplary insuccessive years which makes them competent in job market nationally. The department is managed by HOD and deputized by Deputy HOD.
The courses offered are designed to keep pace with the needs of the formal and informal sectors in science and technology etc. The skills required propel the nation into achieving the sustainable development

- HND in library and information management
- Diploma in information studies
- Certificate in information studies
- Diploma in journalism and mass media
- Diploma in music and sound engineering
New courses to be introduced are:
- Diploma in Archive and record management.
- Higher National Diploma in Archives and record management
These courses are offered at:
Main Campus– The classes are regular
Town Campus– The courses are offered at Kakamega, both regular and Evening classes.
Off Campus– The courses are attended during Holiday or School based.
Application who wishes to enroll for this course should have the following minimum requirements:
- Passed KCSE with an average grade of C- (Minus) for the Diploma courses
- Passed KCSE with an average grade of D (Plain) for certificate courses
- Passed in diploma for HND courses

Binding Services & Reprographic Services
The department offers binding service for both old and new books within the college at affordable cost. We also offer reprographic services when required.
The department designs and publishes materials e.g. library bulletins, brochures, magazines, etc and other service brought to the department.
The department sensitizes the community on good reading habits, good practice of housekeeping and ease management of information centre’s which enlightens complexities of information.

Processing / Organization Service
The department deals with organization of information materials. Through classification and cataloguing which facilitate access and retrieval of information.
